Hello My Dear,
You’ve probably heard the phrase, ‘Time is money’. Well, that’s quite the understatement. Time is not money. Time is life. Money lost can be regained in time, but time lost can never be recovered. With this consciousness, you’ll see that our time is more valuable than most of the things we spend time doing. So what are some of those things that are not worth our time?
Today, we look at 5 things that are certainly not worth our time.
Waiting for that perfect moment
In 99% of the cases, you just need to go and do it. It will not get better with time.
Are you waiting for the perfect time to launch your grand plan? While we don’t like to wait in line, we’re more than content to wait for some other things. Diets are commonly started on a Monday, or the first of the month.
The same mindset applies to starting a business, going back to school, learning a new skill, writing a book, or having a difficult conversation.
We believe that challenging objectives require optimal conditions.
But all that’s really required is the courage to get started. Waiting is often an excuse when we feel fearful or uncertain. So write the first page. Have the conversation. Begin the habit. Do it now!
Flaking on your boundaries
Loose Boundaries equals Personal Hell. Keep the boundaries you set, it’s the best way to succeed.
Look for the places in your life where you’re experiencing anger, resentment, exhaustion, excessive self-criticism, or over-giving. Pay attention to how you feel in relationships where you don’t think you can be yourself. Ask the question,
“What am I doing in life that I don’t want to be doing?” What am I not doing that I want to be doing? What’s standing in the way?”
These all point to gain greater clarity around your boundaries.
Comparing
The number of categories in which we can compare ourselves to others are infinite. So is the number of people we can compare ourselves to. There is always someone better and worse than you at everything.
When we focus on other people, we lose time that we could otherwise invest in ourselves. We don’t grow green grass by focusing on our neighbor’s garden, we do it nurturing our own. So, instead of wasting time comparing your path to someone else’s, spend it investing, creating, and caring for your own.
Focus on you. Focus on watering your grass and building your path. Focus on being the best that you can be and share that with the rest of us.
Giving up Joy for Productivity
As people with full lives — kids, careers, friends, passions, logistics, and more — how can we apply the wisdom of doing less to give ourselves more time and alleviate stress without jeopardizing our results?
We need to identify what not to do. But this determination can’t be random. It must be methodical and evidence-based. Through my work with women navigating the dual vocations of professional advancement and motherhood, I’ve created a surprisingly simple exercise to help individuals decide what activities on their to-do list brings them the most value, and which they can stop doing. If you’re keen to dig a little deeper, send me an email and I’ll share the exercise with you.
Watching The News
Napoleon Hill wrote that the predominant thoughts you allow into your mind actually affect your reality. So why subjecting ourselves to all the negativity in the traditional news media when optimism is such a crucial ingredient to success in life and business?
