In a time where our productive hours feel so very different from what once was I needed to read this reminder from David Allen today.
“You can do anything, but not everything.”
As a Personal Growth & Mindset Coach, I have been getting the following question a lot.
“How can I fit it all in?”
Somehow we still think the key to success is to be able to “do it all”.
But in fact, the opposite is true: When we want to do everything and more, we completely lose touch with ourselves and what is truly important. When everything is a priority, there are no priorities. That’s when we are busy but not productive. Constantly in motion, but never really getting anywhere. We must focus.
Our physical, mental, and emotional health might have suffered lately and our priorities set out in January might look a far cry from what we truly need right now.
Take Action Now
Take some time today to reflect and re-evaluate what is truly important to you. Take your notebook, notetaking app, or your journal, and make a list of your top priorities for the next 6 to 12 months. Priorities are areas of life like family, career/ work, health, hobbies (recreation), friends (social), etc.
Choose only 3 and answer for each one of them why this is a top priority for you.
Now that you have your 3 priorities in sight and you know WHY they are a priority for you. Please ask yourself - “What is ONE thing I can do today (this week, the month, this year) to bring me closer to my goal.”
Generating momentum requires letting go of the things that matter less to you.
So, whether it’s scheduling in time to focus on your health, getting fit, improving relationships, or working on that side hustle - bring your focus towards achieving the things that truly matter to you.
