4 Tiny Shifts to Make Your Life 10 Times More Enjoyable
Don't underestimate the cumulative power of small, steady shifts in your daily routines.
“Powerful avalanches begin with small shifts.”
I think we are all open to making changes in our lives that make us happier and more successful, but few of us follow-through because committing to something that’s going to change our lives is a daunting and massive undertaking, right?
Who are you when it comes to change? Are you like a seed riding the wind? Radical game changer? Or, the mighty oak? Slow growing and steadfast?
Change won’t happen by repeating the same patterns day in, day out. Our brains love to repeat patterns. Patterns are like dominoes toppling. Stopping the first domino is the leverage point that opens a pathway to change. Stopping the first domino requires a radical shift. A shift from tree to seed.
Instead of focusing on huge, radical steps, start moving forward by incorporating these four shifts that are so small and simple that you can implement them immediately.
Tackle the one thing that you’ve been putting off.
Stop avoiding the most difficult tasks. Eat the frog first. Your frog should be the most difficult thing on your ‘to-do list’. Identify the frogs in your life, then ask ‘what’s stopping you?’ from eating the frogs first?
Shift Into New Patterns
Our thoughts and actions are influenced by our feelings. That’s why when you’re just feeling “blah” because the weather is crummy or you had a stressful week all you want to do is stay in bed.
Here’s the problem. Negativity is all around us. There’s nothing we can do about that, either, but what we can do is learn how to reprogram our minds to stay positive. You can't trap every negative thought in the happy-clappy end zone of your mind but you can take charge of your thoughts. Keep a gratitude journal. Surround yourself with positive people who lift your spirits. Stay active.
Don’t be so predictable.
Doing the same thing each and every day puts us in a rut. One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to stop being so predictable. Break out of your comfort zone at least once a week and do something new that you’ve never done before. Start small. Every new step is a quantum leap forward.
Shift Into New Finishes
Finishing what you start is one of the smallest shifts you can make to yield the biggest results. Every day you’re juggling multiple balls to keep your business and personal life going, but sometimes you need to focus on one task at a time to see it through to completion or risk having many incomplete things.
